WWE RAW: Overview
With one exception, every segment tonight focused on WWE Money in the Bank. We lost a participant in R-Truth, but got a great tag team match between four of the match’s competitors.
The heels split from the babyfaces in fighting Nexus, and Nexus mimicked that when they left Darren Young high and dry to let John Cena destroy him to close the show.
Next week, we’ll see the Nexus Seven taking on John Cena in a 7-on-1 handicap match, as well as Randy Orton vs. Edge.
Overall, this show was a really good effort from the RAW crew and makes me want to tune in next week to see how these stories continue.
WWE RAW: Shot by Shot
Looks like Wade Barrett’s visa issues have been worked out since he’s in the ring with the Nexus. Apparently their attack on Mr. McMahon is part of a “much bigger picture.”
Skip Sheffiled says there is more interest in Ricky Steamboat after their attack on him than before. My guess is that’s true…since the DVD came out the day after their attack, not before.
WOW, everything about the RAW General Manager shtick is stupid. Lights? Noises? Podium? I bet Michael Cole is the new RAW GM. Anyway, the “no touch” rule for Nexus has been lifted, which brings out John Cena, who calls out the entire RAW roster to take on NXT. Mayhem ensues until Sheamus pulls the RAW heels back to the stage, and says they all decline to help Cena and the babyfaces fight Nexus.
They do a nice tease with the Anonymous GM saying Cena needs to be the bigger man against Wade Barrett in their meeting later, and “that’s the bottom line, because the anonymous GM said so.”
Ted DiBiase defeated John Morrison with Dream Streets. Maryse was on commentary and took a phone call. Afterward, she put on Morrison’s jacket, allowing the Shaman of Sexy to get distracted and take a thumb to the eye from DiBiase. This match was mostly to put over Maryse’s interest in Ted’s money by her outfit and the rings she was wearing. I guess Morrison’s popular no matter what they’ve done to him since coming to RAW, so DiBiase got the rub here.
Santino tells Vladimir Kozlov that they’re going to be the greatest tag team ever. “Italia and Russia…it’s like World War 2 all over again, except this time, no Nazis!”
The WWE Slam of the Week actually featured a slam? Wow.
They’re still pimping William Regal as King of the Ring? Huh. Regal apparently was able to persuade The Great Khali to be his tag team partner against Kozlov and Santino. It doesn’t matter, though, because he never made it into the match. Santino doesn’t get in much offense, but remains the most entertaining part of Monday nights, in my opinion. Afterward, Khali hits the chop on Regal, and we have RAW’s three oddities in the ring with Ranjin Singh.
After showing the Nexus’ attack on Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat last week, Arn Anderson talked about it until Sheamus showed up. Anderson said Sheamus needed to align himself with the rest of the locker room, or else the company’s going up in smoke. Sheamus didn’t want to listen though, talking about how he’s the WWE Champion and doesn’t need the rest of them. Anderson cut a good promo here, leaving Sheamus pondering when Double A walked off.
WWE Classics on Demand reminded us of Lex Luger slamming Yokozuna 17 years ago before he promptly boarded the Lex Express.
Did I say Santino was the most entertaining person? Because the Miz’s rap over R-Truth’s music about winning Money in the Bank was pretty funny. Miz turns serious though, and the match never gets off the ground as he attack’s R-Truth’s shoulder. Truth is helped out by the trainers as Miz follows him and taunts him on the mic.
Edge comes out for the Cutting Edge and says he wants allies – the Nexus members – going into Money in the Bank. He wants to be their leader. Jericho comes out and makes the connection that he taught Wade Barrett, so he essentially was responsible for Nexus. Jericho must’ve been tired…those eyes were bloodshot. He told Edge how Edge just wanted to be Chris Jericho all throughout his career – the hair, the talk show, the championships. Evan Bourne comes in and hits Jericho, then escapes both Jericho and Edge.
For some reason, instead of a triple threat match, the anonymous GM calls for a tag team match with Edge and Jericho vs. Evan Bourne and Randy Orton. The GM also asked if the RAW crowd wanted to see some action, to give him (or her) a “hell yeah!” I wonder if they’ll hint at different wrestling personalities being the GM each week.
Did I mention I’m bummed that I’m probably going to miss WWE in Peoria, Ill., this Friday night at the Peoria Civic Center? Go for me! Support sports entertainment!
The tag team match was actually pretty long for RAW standards, and the match was a lot of fun. Jericho and Edge were very hesitant toward each other, until Edge speared Jericho. Bourne hit the Airbourne on Jericho for the win. I wonder if Bourne’s hot-shot push will continue after Money in the Bank. As Orton and Bourne celebrated, Orton hit the RKO on Bourne to a mixed reaction. I half-expected a huge ovation for that.
Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, and David Otunga say they won’t interfere in the Money in the Bank ladder match, but can’t say the same thing about the Cena/Sheamus cage match. Orton hears them out, but tells them to leave.
Apparently R-Truth has been taken out of Money in the Bank because of the Miz’s attack. Weak. I was looking forward to seeing him in it after seeing him in TNA’s King of the Mountain match.
Josh Matthews announces the Hart Dynasty will defend their Unified Tag Team titles against Jimmy and Jay Uso. They basically say nobody can tell them apart, and after Tamina talks for a bit, they leave. Alicia Fox shows up and is pissed about not being interviewed since winning the Divas title. She says it wasn’t a fluke and promotes her match with Eve.
Summerslam Recall? Yeah, they’re really building this event. I kinda wish they’d do this with all their PPVs, except they slashed a lot of them in favor of themed shows. The awesome Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog match from 1992 was shown. Such a fun match.
Divas Champion Alicia Fox makes short work of former champion, Eve Torres. Alicia faked a leg injury, which pissed off the crowd, when she hit a big axe kick on Eve. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if I buy that move with Alicia’s twig legs.
Randy Orton vs. Edge is announced for next week’s RAW at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kent.
Barrett says it’s unfortunate that Cena has been in the middle of what Nexus is up to and that he’s not in the future plans of Nexus. Cena refuses to accept a truth with the Nexus and tells Barrett he’s taking out every single member.
You think Wade Barrett had any idea he’d be doing this when he got off NXT? What a great opportunity. I wanna see him wrestle, though…see if he’s any good in the ring. It devolves into a brawl, with Bourne and Morrison out to help, when Mark Henry leads the RAW babyfaces to chase Nexus up to the stage.
Cole says the GM wants peace, and Cena puts the STF on Darren Young. Because of that, the GM puts Cena in a handicap match against the Nexus Seven next week. Well, if anybody can do it, Super Cena can. As he continues to attack Young, apparently Nexus and all the Superstars left the ramp area. Really? NONE of Nexus wanted to help Darren Young?
