NXT in Review
Eliminations are coming next week for the NXT rookies and they got time to put themselves over, with their pros doing the same.
The challenge this week was the NXT Obstacle Course, which Michael McGuillicutty won, thus earning immunity in next week’s elimination. On one hand, it occupied the normal main event slot. On the other hand, wrestling fans didn’t need to wade through it to see the actual in-ring action.
Speaking of action in the ring, we didn’t get much, but we got a little bit. The tag match was the better of the two matches tonight.
NXT: Shot by Shot
The show opens with Matt Striker demonstrating the obstacle course for tonight. I guess it’s a good set-up, but was it necessary?
MVP shows up for the VIP Lounge and invites out Showtime Percy Watson. MVP says doing what Showtime did last week takes initiative, and he respects it. Showtime respects MVP too, and the fans boo at this mutual respect. MVP declares last week’s NXT Season 2 Rookies uprising water under the bridge. Man I love listening to Percy Watson…OH YEAH!
Dashing Cody Rhodes rips on Husky Harris for his appearance. Maybe they’re going to keep ragging on Husky until he goes Samoa Joe and kills everybody.
MVP and Showtime Percy Watson took on Dashing Cody Rhodes and Husky Harris. I thought the way they went to commercial was cool, with the rookies brawling on the outside and the pros separating them…only for MVP to deck Cody Rhodes. The teams stood at a standstill. Husky wound up getting the win.
I’m glad they let Husky get a win here since I think he really needs a win after all the fat jokes. I don’t really know why Cody Rhodes hit John Morrison’s Flying Chuck kick on MVP…Morrison shoulda ran down for the run-in to gain revenge. Anyway, they let the rookies get a lot of in-ring exposure here, and that was nice.
The fact that Michael Cole is so in love with the Miz makes Miz seem way less cool.
Did you know: John Cena designed a 7-Up cup? Reminds me of the Macho Man’s “Cuppa Coffee” promo.
Alex Riley makes quick work of Lucky Cannon with the TKO. I’m glad to see that move is back, I guess. But the match wasn’t long. One second Cannon hits a big boot, and the next minute Riley has Lucky up on his shoulders. Very quick. Afterwards, the Miz beats Lucky up with his Money in the Bank briefcase.
I almost kinda wish the WWE Champion Sheamus was on NXT this one night to see the Miz fake a cash-in. I wonder if Sheamus will venture on over to NXT at some point. That would be a cool angle and something unique for the show.
I didn’t get to blog about RAW last night but I wish I could’ve seen it live. When I saw WWE Live in Peoria, The Great Khali got over huge when he chopped Wade Barrett, so maybe they’re getting ready to push him again. That should be a fun match, but I hope the Nexus get to work in the ring – and dominate some of the other wrestlers – over the next few weeks to get people to buy Summerslam in the hopes of getting destroyed.
McGuillibuddies? Are you fu…ugh. I SO hope that doesn’t stick.
There is no way Eli Cottonwood is staying in after the elimination next week. Absolutely no way. At least that challenge went faster than Talk the Talk.
