TNA Impact: Overview
Impact tonight was about advancing the stories for Victory Road, focusing a lot on the TNA Rankings system. I’m pretty sure every segment revolved, somehow, around the PPV on July 11.
My favorite segments were the Pope’s return, Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles, and Abyss back to being a heel.
TNA Impact: Shot by Shot
It was so awesome to see Abyss scare off the little kids at ringside and throw their seats into the ring. And I’m really glad that Jeff Hardy made the save for Hogan instead of Hogan fighting off TNA’s new monster. I’m still worried that we’ll still have to see Hogan vs. Abyss at Bound for Glory. I guess as long as Abyss goes over then, this feud will really get the Weapon of Mass Destruction over. Please, please let’s see James Mitchell before all this is said and done.
I dunno who that bitch is that keeps screaming at the top of her lungs in the Impact Zone…but somebody should really kick her out.
That Tower of Doom the Motor City Machine Guns gave to Jesse Neal was sweet!
Twenty minutes into the show at we hear our first mention of TNA World Champion Rob Van Dam. And he’s…the special guest referee tonight between Jeff Hardy and Abyss.
Could Samoa Joe look any more pissed as when he looked at AJ Styles from the entrance way?
Right now, to me, Samoa Joe is the Randy Orton of TNA. He just goes in, beats somebody’s ass, and doesn’t talk. I like listening to Joe, but I think this new streak of not talking is suiting him way better than cutting promos. I don’t know what matches are on tap, but this one in particular gets me excited for TNA Live in Bloomingon, Ill., on July 23.
I liked how important the Sting heel turn is to Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, so much so that they went to Dixie Carter to take care of it. Wonder what she’ll do, since I forgot what the spoilers said.
Maybe it’s the inconsistencies in my watching of Impact, but I just did not get behind the Brian Kendrick vs. Desmond Wolfe match. I thought the two seemed awkward in the ring early on, and I hated how they tried to weave two stories in one. Chelsea was upset at being there with Wolfe, and Douglas Williams was on commentary promoting his X-Division title match at Victory Road with Kendrick. I can’t really get into Douglas Williams, who’s apparently in a ladder match with Jeremy Buck next week. Why a ladder match, and why with a Young Buck? Did something happen last week I don’t know about? The announcers didn’t say. I just feel bad for Wolfe, whose momentum seems to have been taken away from him after tapping out to Brian Kendrick.
I still love that Jeremy Borash is back as a ring announcer. I love his work.
How good is The Pope on the mic? And who could’ve known in WWE’s ECW?
Apparently if Kurt Angle loses his match with Pope at Victory Road in his quest to the TNA title, he’ll retire. Wow. I know I’ve been watching wrestling too long when somebody starts and is threatening retirement matches.
I went downstairs for a bit, but caught Hernandez giving a low blow to Matt Morgan and letting Jay Lethal get the pin.
It’s not like the crowd was super into Madison Rayne and Taylor Wilde, but why take the focus off them and onto the ECW guys? Raven, Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards, and Rhino showed up as the match came to a close. I hope Abyss isn’t referring to them as “them” and “they.”
Sarita finally gets some personality in her post-commercial, post-match beatdown backstage of apparently former partner Taylor Wilde.
Dixie Carter finally finds Sting and suspends him for 30 days. There are lot of people getting suspended in wrestling anymore. How about forcing somebody to run the gauntlet for once?
YES! ABYSS HAS HIS OLD THEME MUSIC BACK!
Wouldn’t it be kind of cool for the Hardys to be World champions in different companies? I don’t think Matt will ever get that opportunity, but Jeff is definitely over enough in TNA. Hell, by the time Matt gets into the world title picture, Jeff will have already served his prison sentence.
